New Ugly Duck U.S. Postal Trucks Debut, And Carriers Already Love Them

The U.S. Postal Service has finally unveiled the new trucks that will be delivering mail across the country.

Dubbed the Next Generation Delivery Vehicle, or NGDV, the new trucks will replace the aging fleet of Grumman LLVs that have been in service since the early 1990s. The NGDVs are larger and more fuel-efficient than the LLVs, and they come equipped with a number of features to make the job of delivering mail easier and safer.

Postal carriers have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new trucks, and they are already raving about them.

According to the Washington Post, one carrier said that the new truck is "a dream to drive." Another carrier said that the NGDV is "so much more comfortable and spacious" than the LLV.

The NGDVs are also more environmentally friendly than the LLVs. They get better gas mileage and produce fewer emissions. The trucks are also equipped with a number of safety features, including airbags, anti-lock brakes, and a rearview camera.

The Postal Service is investing $11.3 billion in the NGDV program. The first batch of trucks is expected to be delivered by the end of the year. The full fleet of NGDVs is expected to be in service by 2030.

Here are some of the key features of the Next Generation Delivery Vehicle:

  • Larger than the LLV, with more cargo space
  • More fuel-efficient than the LLV
  • Equipped with a number of safety features, including airbags, anti-lock brakes, and a rearview camera
  • More comfortable and spacious for carriers

The Postal Service is confident that the NGDVs will be a major improvement over the LLVs. The new trucks are expected to make the job of delivering mail easier and safer, and they will also help the Postal Service to reduce its environmental impact.
